Just to answer some questions 1. I got most of my components on Amazon.com the others I got at auto parts stores and home improvement stores 2. For safety yes you should put venting holes in and yes connect the terminals to the inverter first prior to hooking them to battery. 3. To get more power get a bigger battery, charge controller, and a panel. 4. you can use this same setup as a wind powered generator using a dc motor and prop instead of a solar panel.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 5, 2010

With so much government aid available for first time home buyers, real estate fever has hit hard across the country, particularly among Generation X. But even if buyers are getting these older bungalows or foreclosed fixer-uppers on the cheap, the hard reality is that energy costs are once again on the rise and older homes are often not designed for maximum efficiency. This winter, author, mechanical engineer, and solar energy specialist Neil Kaminar offers Solar Basics: The Easy Guide to Solar Energy (McNeill Hill; ISBN 978-0-9840510-0-7; 2009; $ 24.95) to any dedicated do-it-yourselfer who wants to save money and reduce the impact they have on fossil fuels.

Knowing that cost is one of the most daunting factors in an undertaking like this, Kaminar also focuses on how to fund the installation of a solar system and still get rebates and tax credits. “The cost of a solar system can be paid back in a few years by eliminating electricity bills,” says Kaminar, “but there are intangible credits as well such as the tons of carbon dioxide that are not being produced because of your system.”

Kaminar demystifies solar energy and gives straightforward information and full color illustrations about how solar modules work, proper care and maintenance, how to buy equipment, and solar safety. Don Street, VP of USPL Modules Group raves, “I learned a lot from Solar Bascis. It covered a whole spectrum of subjects I hadn’t even expected, and it was written in plain, understandable English. Nice job! I just ordered 5 more copies to give to people I’m trying to train into solar; this is the perfect first read for people with a general education.”

Solar Basics is available on Amazon.com and through the Neil Kaminar’s website

About the author: Neil Kaminar started his career in solar energy in the early 1970s by helping to design and build a solar house in Atascadero, CA. Throughout the 80s and 90s Kaminar has worked to develop, install, and oversee projects related to solar energy modules. Since 2006, Mr. Kaminar has worked as a consultant to various companies worldwide. His motivation for writing Solar Basics and Solar Design is to give back to the world some of the knowledge gained in his 40-year career in Solar Energy.

(PRWEB) October 12, 2010

In a bid to provide solar energy systems in New Jersey, two Florida-based renewable energy companies have partnered to form PowerReady Alternative Energy, LLC.

The PowerReady Alternative Energy strategy is to design and install regional solar energy systems using New Jerseys popular tax incentives for renewable energy.

PowerReady Alternative Energy is a partnership between two established green companies, VB Engineering (VBE), a leader in the design and installation of solar energy systems and PowerReady Power Systems, which designs and installs clean battery back-up systems and wind turbines. Both companies remain independently viable but say they are committed to establishing a presence in the northeast as PowerReady Alternative Energy.

Company principals include VBE president Mike Vergona, and PowerReady CEO Bill Dato, who is running PowerReady Alternative Energys business operations in the northeast. Dato believes the merger between 36-year-old VBE and its younger partner stands apart from the competition due to their combined record for proficiency in engineering, design and installation.

PowerReady Alternative Energy will work with local business and property owners to design their energy system and help them bring an investment-grade solar installation within economic reach, Dato said. We are now a full-service alternative energy company, matching battery back-up and wind turbine technology with some of the best solar design engineering around.

A key employee on the technical side is VBs lead engineer, Dr. Roger Messenger, an authority on photovoltaic (solar) systems. A professor emeritus at Florida Atlantic University, Messenger authored the text, Photovoltaic Systems Engineering (1999) and has designed countless solar installations including the massive multi-acre site at the Orlando Convention Center.

Ive been doing solar installations for years, Dr. Messenger said. We have seen the pace of growth reach a plateau, even in Florida. Here in New Jersey, however, there are incentives for investing in solar, probably the best in the country. Its the right time to be installing solar here.

On September 30, Messenger and Dato hosted a kick-off seminar on solar basics in Clifton, New Jersey where a group comprising energy trade professionals, realtors, contractors and salespeople learned about solar basics.

What makes us credible is our range of service, Dato said. We offer property owners comprehensive packages from design through installation. But we are just as eager to meet with other solar companies and provide them support on their projects.

Dato said that PowerReady Alternative Energy will help business and property owners in a variety of ways, from financing the building of a system to setting up a power purchase agreement in which PowerReady Alternative Energy retains ownership of the solar installation and sells power back to the property owner at a savings over their traditional power utility.

The market for solar is very active, Dato said. Its good for the environment and it will continue to grow. The key is to be careful that what you are installing is investment-worthy. You need the right engineering, materials and professional installation. But once you have everything in place and the project makes economic sense, the only question is, Why not?

Solar Sidebar:

At the Clifton, New Jersey seminar, solar energy expert Dr. Roger Messenger and fellow engineer Bert Lichen from PowerReady Alternative Energy covered photovoltaic (solar) components, a variety of algorithms for power and heating, a comprehensive overview of site assessments, government incentives for renewable energy, building code issues and the essentials of design and installation. The engineers discussion suggested that a high professional standard was key to the success of any solar installation.

There were also some interesting facts to take away:

Solar systems are generally robust. They are built to last about 25 years but can last much longer.
Small amounts of shade, even the size of a business card, can affect the efficiency of a string of solar panels.
Solar panels can be power-washed.
In terms of a roof load, the lift from high wind is usually a bigger concern than the weight of the installation itself.
Solar installations can strengthen a roof: photographs taken post-hurricane in Florida showed that a roof could be torn apart all around a solar installation, while the roof immediately under the solar panels survived the storm intact.
New Jerseys solar incentives are considered the best in the nation.
North Carolina Universitys Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency provides a comprehensive view of state incentives, rules, regulations and a glossary.

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) April 19, 2012

MissionIR would like to highlight SEFE, Inc., a publicly traded alternative energy company focused on the development and commercialization of the aerostatic collection of atmospheric electricity. The goal is to reach into the atmosphere and economically tap the significant and constant static charge differential that exists, transforming it into inexpensive usable electric power. The company is in the process of patenting several related technologies.

Yesterday, Seeking Alpha published the following article featuring SEFE: http://seekingalpha.com/article/506511

The article, titled SEFE: Investing In The Newest Renewable Source Of Electricity, discusses a new source of electrical energy being uncovered by Colorado-based SEFE, Inc.

SEFE stands for St. Elmo’s Fire, a weather phenomenon in which a strong electrical field in the atmosphere sometimes causes a bluish glow, almost like flames, to appear around aircraft wings, chimneys, or almost any tall or pointed object. Like lightning, it suggests the atmosphere’s unique electrical potential.

SEFE has come up with a way of tapping this inherent electrical power of the atmosphere, a widespread and ever-present electrical differential that represents a true paradigm shift in the generation of electricity, a way that effectively removes both the variability and high costs that plague the most popular representatives of green energy, wind, and solar.

Basically, SEFE believes it now knows how to harvest the constant and powerful static electricity that is continually formed in the earth’s atmosphere. Using proprietary technology that is currently in the process of being protected through multiple patents, the company has designed and is testing a system that is able to use the earth’s massive static differential to generate a direct current from the atmosphere, and then convert it to alternating current for immediate consumption.

It’s a source that they are now confirming is always on, is limitless, does not require extensive infrastructure, is available everywhere on the planet, can be scaled small or large, and has virtually no carbon footprint. In addition, when all factors are added in, the company believes it can generate electricity at a cost less than half that of wind-power, making it highly competitive with even nuclear and fossil.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

Dwell Media celebrated its Light & Energy issue on Wednesday night with a spectacular lighting exhibition and party held at Industria Superstudio. Dwells April issue looks at the latest innovations in energy conservation and lighting technology and singles out those leading the way. The designers featured in the exhibition included: David Weeks, Jason Miller, Bec Brittain, Lindsey Adelman, Rich Brilliant Willing, David Nosanchuk, Dror Benshetrit, Workstead, Chris Hardy for FontanaArte, Vica Design, FLOS, Artemide, Kartell, and Luceplan. The event was sponsored by Pharox, a San Francisco-based company creating cutting-edge LED lighting technology.

The majority of lights were fitted with the Pharox LED light bulb, which filled the room with a beautiful ambient glow reminiscent of incandescent lighting, which use 75% less energy than standard bulbs. The Pharox also lasts up to 25 years and fits a standard socket. Warner Philips, Founder and CEO of Pharox, and serial cleantech entrepreneur shared some of the technological benefits of LEDs. Philips, a great-grandson of Anton Philips, founder of Philips Lighting, added “We are honored and proud to see Pharox featured in so many of these amazing fixtures from leading lighting designers: we promise consumers a bulb in the shape they trust with beautifully efficient light. The Dwell event beautifully illuminates our commitment to great design.”

The exhibition space was designed by Tom Borgese and featured bright yellow backdrops to 14 designs. DJ Brendan Fallis spun into the night, while guests enjoyed Voli Lyte Vodka, Sneaky Pete’s, Peroni beer and snacked on gourmet grilled cheese.

Designers in attendance included: David Weeks, Jason Miller, Bec Brittain, Alexander Williams, Theo Richardson and Charles Brill from Rich Brilliant Willing, David Nosanchuk, Robert Andrew Highsmith and Stefanie Brechbuehler of Workstead and Chris Hardy. Brittain presented her new SHY floor lamp and Nosanchuk his new NIR Table lamp and Dror his 3D-printed QuaDror light currently on exhibit at Material ConneXion.

Designers that incorporate energy efficiency into their creations help to elevate the landscape, said Editor-in-Chief Amanda Dameron. They have the power to inspire and educate the public subtly through the beauty of their designs.

Other guests included: Dwell Founder & Owner Lara Deam, Dwell Editor-in-Chief Amanda Dameron, and Publisher Brenda Saget Darling. Architects: Michael Arad, Marc Kushner, Jonathan Marvel, Charles Renfro.

END

Take a closer look at the flare that erupted on March 6, 2012. This movie of the March 6, 2012 X5.4 flare was captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) in the 171 and 131 Angstrom wavelength. One of the most dramatic features is the way the entire surface of the sun seems to ripple with the force of the eruption. This movement comes from something called EIT waves — because they were first discovered with the Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) on the Solar Heliospheric Observatory. Since SDO captures images every 12 seconds, it has been able to map the full evolution of these waves and confirm that they can travel across the full breadth of the sun. The waves move at over a million miles per hour, zipping from one side of the sun to the other in about an hour. The movie shows two distinct waves. The first seems to spread in all directions; the second is narrower, moving toward the southeast. Such waves are associated with, and perhaps trigger, fast coronal mass ejections, so it is likely that each one is connected to one of the two CMEs that erupted on March 6.
